Government's themes for RS&T

The government has recently signalled six fundamental drivers to boost New Zealand's economic performance and improve our standard of living. One of those is innovation. A significant driver of innovation is the Government's investment in research, science and technology.

In his keynote speech to the science sector in August 2009, the Minister for RS&T Hon Dr Wayne Mapp signalled the following four themes as being critically important to improving the RS&T sector and maximising its contribution to New Zealand's economy.

As work in this area progresses, more information will be made available via this page.

Enhancing migration from lab to marketplace

Improving the ability of businesses to connect with scientists and to draw science out of the lab to realise commercial opportunities.

Strategic investment in public good science to support our economy

Strengthening our core to support our present and future economic base.

Boosting economic growth through market-driven research

Ensuring that in the applied sciences, progress towards end goals is more sharply defined, and the pathway towards it is managed better.

Simplifying the system

Makng the system simpler for the users, be they scientists or businesses.
