New Zealand biotechnology links

Biotechnology Learning Hub  - A collaboration between educators and the biotechnology sector featuring up-to-date examples of biotechnology in practice, along with supporting classroom resources.

Biotechnology Taskforce - The Biotechnology Taskforce released its report "Growing the Biotechnology Sector in New Zealand: A Framework for Action", in May 2003. The Taskforce was established under the Government's Growth and Innovation Framework (GIF). More information can be found on the Growth and Innovation website.

NZBio - NZBio is the biotechnology industry organisation, established under the GIF in October 2003.  It works to promote the growth of the biotechnology sector and coordinates communication amongst members.

Environmental Risk Management Authority - ERMA New Zealand controls the introduction of new plants and animals, including genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and new and existing hazardous substances to New Zealand.

Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry - MAF is about agriculture, horticulture and forestry, safe food, a protected environment, the wise use of the land, the creation of clean, green product and the economic success of those who produce it.

Ministry for the Environment - The Ministry for the Environment works with others to identify New Zealand’s environmental problems and get action on solutions. Its focus is on the effects people’s everyday activities have on the environment, so its work programmes cover both the natural world and the places where people live and work.

Ministry of Health - The Ministry of Health is the Government's primary advisor on health policy and disability support services.

Report of the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification - Royal Commission on Genetic Modification was established by the Government on 8 May 2000 to look into and report on the issues surrounding genetic modification in New Zealand. It reported on 27 July 2001.

Royal Society of New Zealand - News, events, publications, and other documentation that reflects the Royal Society's input into education, policy advice to government, plus wide involvement with NZ science and technology organisations.

Toi te Taiao: New Zealand's Bioethics Council - Toi te Taiao: New Zealand's Bioethics Council was formed with the aim of enhancing New Zealand's understanding of the cultural, ethical and spiritual aspects of biotechnology, and ensuring that the use of biotechnology has regard for New Zealanders' values.
