Successful Projects

The Extent of Fuel Poverty in New Zealand and Possible Policy Responses (MSD)

This research will establish a baseline for understanding household energy use and poverty in New Zealand, standard measures for assessing fuel poverty, and an in-depth understanding of the decision-making processes and priorities people use around expenditure on fuel. It will also provide information about the impacts of changes consequent to the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy, and will support the development of policy responses to the issues identified.

Auckland: Evidence of Economic and Social Transformation (MED)

This research will use data-intensive analysis and case studies to understand factors determining Auckland’s economic and social development.  Policy-makers will use the research to judge how best to assist the city’s productivity and growth performance, together with its social and environmental outcomes.  This research will contribute significantly to the Internationally Competitive City – Auckland sub theme of the government’s Economic Transformation agenda.

Building Capability for Collaborative Governance (MFish)

This research will develop a good practice model for collaborative governance for natural resource management and test the model on current policy projects.  This approach will build capability within government and with stakeholder organisations.  Collaborative governance will help to resolve conflict over natural resources and thereby create more favourable conditions for investment while improving social, cultural and environmental outcomes.

Embodied Greenhouse Gas Balance for New Zealand’s Internationally Traded Goods (MAF)

This research seeks to quantify New Zealand’s net greenhouse gas trade balance, recognising New Zealand’s unique circumstances as a significant agricultural exporter, and the transferred benefits and avoided costs due to embodied greenhouse occurring as a result of international trade in goods.
